What thoughts are dominant in your mind right now? What is distracting you? Bring those to God now and ask Him to focus your heart to hear from you.
Tonight, if you go “trick or treating”, you will no doubt see many people around pretending to be something they are not. Some are walking around as heroes, scary creatures and larger than life figures. You may call them by titles such as, “hero”, “monster” or “icon”.
The truth is, titles matter. What you call someone says a lot about your relationship with them: to my wife I’m “love”, but to the cashier at Circle K I’m “Mr. Schubert”. To my kids I’m DAD, but to the clerk at Safeway I’m, “Sir.” I’m also son, brother, friend, dude, “hey you” and pastor. Each of these names says something about the kind of relationship I have with another person.
So think about how God introduces Himself to us in our passage today. God has a NAME. Think about that for a moment. He has a NAME and It’s YAHWEH. In ancient writings like the Bible, your name was your identity, the truth hidden in the marrow of your bones. Your name was your inner essence. By giving us His name, it’s God’s way of saying, “I’m a relational being. Not an impersonal energy or force.”
What do you sense your Heavenly Father speaking to you? How is He calling you to respond?
