“These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock… — Matthew 7:24 (The Message)
We began our “Under Pressure” series by looking deeply at the words of Jesus and I want to end by doing the same. At the end of His most famous sermon—the sermon on the Mount—this is the promise that Jesus made to any who would live the life He has invited them to live.
Jesus said in Matthew 7:24 that if we would apply these truth to our lives, we’re like a “smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock…” (Matthew 7:24 - The Message).
Then, look at what Jesus said happened next in Matthew 7:25:
“…but…” (Matthew 7:25)
I love that word in this context. Jesus is setting us up. He’s saying, “yes, there’s pressure from rain, from flooding, from tornados and it’s bad BUT…”
Here’s the difference Jesus makes: it’s not that pressure DOESN’T come, but rather that when it does, here’s JESUS’ (not Pastor Keith’s) promise: “…nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock.” (Matthew 7:25 — The Message)
That’s my prayer for you. That when the PRESSURE starts to mount, when the rains pour and the river floods and the tornado hits — and they will…you’ll stand firm. Why?
Because you came to Him. You followed His lead. You TRUSTED Him to be the pressure release that you need.
Close your time in prayer.
