Read: 1 Corinthians 10:31

I want to tackle this really important issue of  “retro morality” from a different angle as we close out this week’s study on the book of Judges.

If you’re here today and you are committed to following Jesus I want to ask you a really important question: “Why would we want to aspire to the  ‘do what I want when I want with who I want’  life anyway?”  What’s the win there?

You’ve seen where that question leads you.  It’s the point of the book of Judges!  It’s going to take you someplace horrible!

So why not challenge yourself with a different question: “I should be able to do what I want, when I want, with whom I want, as long as it honors God and draws me closer to Him.”  I should be able to do what I want, when I want, with whom I want, as long as it helps others.

Why wouldn’t we want to aspire to GREATNESS not the STATUS QUO?  Why  SETTLE when we could TRIVE?

Why wouldn’t we HARNESS the God-given passion, talents, abilities and desires to make the world a better place?

Why wouldn’t we decide to do as much as we can instead of trying to get away with as much as we can?

You see, the incredible PARADOX of the Gospel is that by trying to gain your life you lose it, but by losing your life for His sake, you actually find it.

We talk about that a lot at our church.  That in losing your win.  In surrender you succeed.  In giving up you conquer.

And the strange thing is, when we do what’s right in our own eyes, the world falls apart.

But when we trust Him, when we follow Him and His ways, you actually discover the freedom you were searching for all along.

Close your time in prayer.
