Hey! My name is Taylor Horwood and this summer I was blessed with the
opportunity to fall in love with Nicaragua. I went with an organization
called Adventures in Missions. My team of ten girls had only five days of
getting to know each other at training camp before we left together to
spend 26 days in a new country.
During the first half of my trip we stayed in Granada at a mission
station. We worked in many different ministries already started there. A
few of the ministries I really enjoyed were VBS, Vidajoven (or as in the
States we call it Young Life, if you’re familiar), and the food ministry
at the dump. The dump was like nothing I had ever seen before; to see
people rummage through trash to support their families broke our hearts.
As we looked around at all the filth, it vanished as we could see God was
still there. The beauty of the mountains all around and the thousands of
butterflies made this place a wonder. As we talked with the people and
looked into their eyes, we knew God was present and at work.
God has revealed Himself to me in so many ways on this trip. I found out
more about the amazing power of prayer and know everyone‘s prayers back
home made an impact on my team and me. He has taught me to be incredibly
flexible on the mission field. Whenever you think you have a schedule for
the day, he might just flip it upside down on you.
In my daily life I want to implement what I learned. I already know my
prayer life has been changed and my view of service has been expanded. I
can’t wait to see what God has for me as I practice everything I’ve
learned and continue to learn.
